Please welcome Amy Patrick to The Authorteers! She's here to tell us about her books and what else she has in store soon.
1. Describe your latest book in the length of a tweet or less.
Think those beautiful celebs are a little too good to be true? You're right, and they're using glamour to fool us all. HIDDEN HEART
(and here’s one for the first book in the series, HIDDEN DEEP) Ryann has just run into the guy who saved her life 10 years ago. Small problem—he’s not supposed to exist. A new YA paranormal saga begins.
2. How much of the inspiration for the 20Something series came from real life?
A great deal of the career-related stuff came from the thirteen years I spent anchoring and reporting news around the country— the messy relationship stuff? I’m not saying. ;)
3. In your bio it says that you love to read smart romance books. What are your favorites?
I’m in love with Lisa Kleypas’s writing. Kristan Higgins is another favorite. I’ll read anything they write. And I’ve just discovered Penny Reid, who is hilarious. I’m lucky to get to read many of the books written by my fellow Golden Heart finalists from the past two years, and let me tell you, these are some smart, talented women. Keep your eye out for their books as they become published!
4. What is your absolute favorite part of being an author?
I hear some writers say they like having written but not necessarily the writing itself. I actually love the act of writing, especially first drafts when I’m creating a new world and new characters and plots. Probably the *very* best part, though, is hearing from readers who love something I’ve written. It’s incredibly rewarding, and if they also take the time to write a review I’m always grateful and humbled.
5. How long does it take you to write a book?
I’ve gotten faster as I’ve become more comfortable with the process and learned how to streamline the steps. I can write a fast first draft (I like to call it the UFD- Ugly First Draft) in about a month, writing six days a week for a few hours per day. Then I need a few more weeks for revision passes before sending it off to my critique partners and then my editor.
6. What is your favorite tip that you give to fellow writers/authors?
It’s related to the UFD- first drafts are allowed to suck, and almost inevitably will do so. So don’t worry about making each word perfect—just keep going, getting the bones and muscle of the story down before you worry about its complexion. That’s what revisions are for. The sense of accomplishment from completing the first draft will motivate you to follow through with the next steps. It’s a great cure (or prevention) for writer’s block.
7. What are you working on right now?
I’ve got two projects going. I’m writing the third book in The Hidden Trilogy—Hidden Hope, and I’m also working on the fifth book in the 20 Something series, Still Waiting. Here’s a little blurb for you—I’m still tweaking it, but it’ll give you an idea of the story:
Since his college sweetheart turned down his proposal, Hale Gentry has been in no hurry to fall in love again. Besides, running his family’s large Southern farming operation means he’s tied to the land, and anyone who can’t deal with that had best hit the road. In his world, your land and family loyalty mean everything.
Now that she’s out of college, working and living in her hometown again, rookie meteorologist Jillian Peterson hopes she’ll finally have a chance with her lifelong crush. Maybe Hale will stop looking at her as a little girl and finally SEE her. But her big brother’s way-too-hot best friend seems more dismissive now than ever—finding something to criticize about everything she does, especially her chosen career.
Jillie awakens old feelings in Hale and makes him feel things he’s NEVER felt before, not even for his almost-fiancée Heidi. But he’s not dumb—he knows what’s in the forecast—Jillie’s TV career will take her away just like Heidi’s did. He’s not signing up for a second helping of that kind of pain. Besides—if a second broken heart wouldn’t kill him, his best friend Beck definitely would. But when she calls for help in the middle of the night, Hale can no longer ignore the fact that the girl-next-door is back in town… and more tempting than ever.
Thank you for sharing, Amy!

Amy's latest series is the Hidden Trilogy
The first book, Hidden Deep, is already out:
Give in to the Glamour…
Sixteen-year-old Ryann Carroll has just run into the guy who saved her life ten years ago. You might think she'd be happy to see him again. Not exactly. She's a bit underdressed (as in skinny-dipping) and he's not supposed to exist.
After her father's affair, all Ryann wants is to escape the family implosion fallout and find a little peace. She also wouldn't mind a first date that didn't suck, but she's determined not to end up like her mom: vulnerable, betrayed, destroyed. Ryann's recently moved back to her childhood home in rural Mississippi, the same place where ten years earlier she became lost in the woods overnight and nearly died.
She's still irresistibly drawn to those woods. There she encounters the boy who kept her from freezing to death that long ago winter night and was nowhere to be seen when rescuers arrived. He's still mysterious, but now all grown-up and gorgeous, too. And the more she's with him, the greater the threat he poses to Ryann's strict policy-- never want someone more than he wants you.
Seventeen-year-old Lad knows the law of his people all too well: Don't get careless and Don't get caught. It's allowed his race to live undetected in this world for thousands of years, mentioned only in flawed and fading folklore…
Lad's never been able to forget about Ryann since that night ten years ago. When he sees her again, his fascination re-ignites and becomes a growing desire that tempts him to break all the rules. He's not even supposed to talk to a human, much less fall in love with one.
And the timing is atrocious. The Assemblage is coming, the rift between the Light and Dark is widening, and mysterious celebrity fan pods are becoming more and more widespread and influential. Lad may have to trade his own chance at happiness to keep the humans, especially Ryann, blissfully unaware and safe.
Her latest release is Hidden Heart:
17-year-old Ryann Carroll thought she knew who she was… a small-town Southern girl just trying to survive her parents’ messy divorce and find some peace for herself. She thought she knew what she wanted… a summer job, a car, a first date that didn’t suck, and NO complications from a serious relationship—any guy in her life would simply be icing on the cake. But now… she’s not only in love, but her boyfriend Lad is a member of a secret race that’s lived secretly among humans for thousands of years, mentioned only in flawed and fading folklore. Things could hardly get more complicated than that.More importantly, she’s learned the world’s top celebrities… those actors, musicians, athletes, and politicians who seem a little too beautiful and talented to be true… actually are. They’re not human, and they’re using their glamour and the increasing popularity of fan pods to control more and more humans. But why? With her best friend Emmy leaving soon to join the fan pod of a famous actor, Ryann has to find out the answer. And she can’t do it alone. But after a shocking murder, Lad can no longer fight his destiny or his duty, and Ryann’s not sure whether his top priority is their relationship or his people. In this second book of the Hidden Trilogy, true friendship will take Ryann from rural Mississippi to the glittering city of Los Angeles. And true love will take her to places she never expected to go…
