An interview with author Stefanie London + Giveaway

Please welcome Stefanie London to The Authorteers! She's here today to chat with us about her books and writing.

The Interview:

1. Describe your latest book in the length of a tweet or less.

The Tycoon’s Stowaway: Struggling dancer & windsurfer turned tycoon heat things up eight years after their illicit kiss ruined the best thing they ever had.

2. What sparked the idea for The Rules According to Gracie? Did you have a list like Gracie?

It was an image that sparked the story. I saw the opening scene very vividly: the hero stood behind the bar, working and watching the heroine struggle through a bad date. I knew he had feelings for her and that they were friends. The story spiralled out from there.

No, I don’t have a list. I may have a few of Gracie’s Type-A tendencies (*cough* ok, more than a few) but I met my husband when we were both nineteen, so I wasn’t really looking for love at the time. It just happened. I’ve always been drawn to funny guys, though. So if I had a list sense of humour would be right up there, along with a kind heart and a sense of drive/ambition.

3. Which of your books was your favorite to write so far?

That’s tough, I love them all for different reasons. I would have to say it’s a tie between:
  1. My debut novel, Only The Brave Try Ballet, because it was my first time writing fiction and I learned so much along the way. Seeing that story change and take shape is what made me fall in love with the idea of being an author.
  2. The Rules According to Gracie, which I wrote it in a complete fit of inspiration after attending my first writer’s conference. The first draft only took two weeks because I couldn’t stop the words from flowing – I wish every book was like that!

4. What is your favorite tip that you give to fellow writers/authors?

Read and ask questions. Reading is what gives me the creative fuel to write, it helps me to see how other authors do things and when I read a really good book it makes me want to push myself harder. Asking questions of other authors can be daunting, but most people are happy to share their experiences. Authors are a goldmine of information and are, often, an untapped resource for newer writers.

5. Which authors have most influenced your writing?

I’m not sure if the authors I read influence my writing so much as they inspire me to write. Early on I fell in love with a few Australian Harlequin/Mills & Boon authors whose voices I loved (Sarah Mayberry, Nicola Marsh, Annie West and Amy Andrews). They’re all different but their stories reached out and grabbed me. Reading their books always makes me want to run back to my laptop and create.

6. What is the latest book you read and absolutely loved?

It wasn’t a romance actually. I finally read A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin after being scared off by the page count for years. It was wonderful and horrific and totally gripping. It took me a while to read but it was so worth it, I immediately went out and bought A Clash of Kings.

7. What are you working on right now?

I’ve gotten to that point where I always seem to be working on multiple things! I’m planning a follow-up to my Entangled Lovestruck novella, The Rules According to Gracie, where Des’s brother gets his HEA. I’m getting ready to revise a Christmas-themed story, also for Entangled Publishing. Plus I have a few more projects in early stages which my agent is helping me wade through. It’s going to be a busy year!

Thank you for stopping by, Stefanie!

About the Author
Growing up, Stefanie came from a family of women who loved to read. Her favourite activity was going shopping with her Nan during school holidays, where she would sit on the floor of the bookstore with her little sister and painstakingly select the books to spend her allowance on. Thankfully, Nan was a very patient woman.

Thus, it was no surprise Stefanie was the sort of student who would read her English books before the semester started. After sneaking several literature subjects into her ‘very practical’ Business degree, she got a job in Communications. When writing emails and newsletters didn’t fulfil her creative urges, she turned to fiction and was finally able to write the stories that kept her mind busy at night.

Now she lives in Toronto with her very own hero and enough books to sink a ship. She frequently indulges in her passions for good coffee, French perfume, high heels and zombie movies. Recently she gave up her day job to write sexy, contemporary romance stories and she couldn’t be happier.

Stefanie's latest release is The Tycoon's Stowaway:
The one that got away…

Luxury yacht tycoon Brodie Mitchell and dancer Chantal Turner haven’t seen each other since that fateful night when the searing heat between them ignited, devastating everything in its wake. Even if he can only offer a no-strings fling…

Sydney’s Most Eligible…
